The three figures holding the body of Christ form a colorful triangle around him, sharply contrasting with his deathly white complexion and quickly bringing the eye to Him.To the left, Christ’s mother and Mary Magdalene watch the men carry His body. It is interesting to note the artist’s particular take on this popular subject. All present show sadness, yet none of the ripping anguish found in other portrayals is present, most notably in Mary. In addition, the sky is uncharacteristically bright, and other than understated wounds to His hands and feet, the crown of thorns is the only reminder of Christ’s agony. Note, however, that Titian did not subtract any reverence from his treatment of the Entombment: except for the beloved John, in red at center, the body of Christ is not directly touched by any human hand.
