Monet is one of the
most well-known impressionist painters. His water-lily paintings are his
trademark masterpieces. Each one is a potpourri of subtly distinct colors,
sometimes vibrant, sometimes pastel. Monet is mysteriously able to portray
unmistakably the reflection on the water in these paintings. In the one above,
closer examination reveals that he has not used only the colors white and gray
to show reflection. Myriad shades including pink, light and dark purples, light
orange, yellow, and even a smattering of blue give this impression.
From The Unnamed Lake
Frederick George Scott
Sunrise and sunset
crown with gold
The peaks of ageless stone,
Where winds have thundered from of old
And storms have set their throne.
The peaks of ageless stone,
Where winds have thundered from of old
And storms have set their throne.
Through tangled brush
and dewy brake,
Returning whence we came,
We passed in silence, and the lake
We left without a name.
Returning whence we came,
We passed in silence, and the lake
We left without a name.
