Delacroix, a painter with a similarly bold and
passionate style, said of Titian’s work, “In his work pictorial qualities are
brought to their highest point; what he paints is painted; eyes look and are
animated by the fire of life. Life and reason are apparent everywhere.”
“And they clothe him with purple, and platting
a crown of thorns, they put it on him.”
Mark 15:17
