Titian: Altarpiece of the Resurrection

          In the background one sees the morning dawn beginning to fight off the dark sky and in the distance Jerusalem can be seen. Even the reflections off the soldier’s armor are lackluster compared to the Heavenly scene above him. The body of Christ looks fresh, with only small bruise-like inflections on His feet, and perhaps His hands. His head is surrounded by rays of light, and His face is extremely kind. Christ is rising into a brightening sky and leaving the dark cemetery beneath Him, signifying not only His resurrection, but also His triumph over death.
